Mungai and the Goa Constrictor - A children's book by Amelia E Curzon - Banner

A children’s book for children of all ages

Mungai and the Goa Constrictor is an allegorical tale filled with action and adventure, laughter and sadness, deceit, friendship and tolerance. And, there is an important message to be learned: Beware of predators in the guise of friends!

Just some of the things reviewers are saying!

“This was a clever, enjoyable, different, well-crafted story and one I’d love to see as an animated movie. Both the book (and the movie!) would appeal to older children and adults alike” (Beeshon)

“Excellent book! Thought provoking and fun! This is a story that could take its place among the best in fairy tales – with a lesson–but not only for children”  (The Happy Looker “T.H.L.” )

“Amelia Curzon has created a beautiful fable in “Mungai and the Goa Constrictor” that warns of the effects of destruction of the forest in a fashion that is innocent, entertaining and compelling”  (Scarlett Rains)

“Great, great, great book! Excellent lesson, and almost a vicious-circle type ending, which I find to be uncommon in most books”  (The Halulkos)

Mungai and the Goa Constrictor – The Book

Mungai and the Goa Constrictor is a book aimed at 9 years to adult,  with a strong environmental theme and a moral which will touch all. In life there is little doubt most of us will have met a Mungai or a Goa. But how often do such beings get their comeuppance? Here the animals are very determined to protect and save what is theirs by right, and bravely go forth to try and do just that. But it is not just a story about fighting for what they believe in, it is also a story of friendship and tolerance of those who are not necessarily the same. And, it is a story which, it is hoped, will make you smile a great deal.

Short Summary

Told through the eyes of animals, the reader is taken on a compelling journey through the jungle, together with a wealth of colourful and enjoyable characters, conspiracies and the unlikely friendships forged between the various species of the animal kingdom.

***

Mungai, a plausible and resourceful creature of indeterminate origin, and with a penchant for easy living, finds a soul mate in Goa; a lisping, greedy, self-serving  Boa Constrictor.

Having explained to her “the usefulness of the lesser species” and his highly profitable master plan to find ways of passing through life without too much cost to himself, and at the expense of others not as strong-minded as he is, Mungai tempts Goa into joining him in his search for as many unsuspecting creatures as they can muster.

They subsequently meet, befriend and manage to convince all manner of creatures to join them in their new venture, with promises of great rewards in return for small labours.  The creatures believe their efforts to be beneficial to their families and the environment, and look forward to the promised bounty.

But, before too long, the animals become suspicious. They also discover Mungai and Goa are in league with the two-legs they despise and fear so much. Dissatisfaction burgeons and rebellion becomes imminent. But, by the time Mungai finds out that those he shamelessly inveigled into his plans are not all as naive as he first thought; the animals have organised and the tables show signs of turning.

With such a diversity of animals involved, each with their own specific set of skills, and all working together, Mungai and Goa find their slothful world turned upside down, and realise they may be about to lose everything they have worked so little for.
